A lot of project management concepts just needs to be understood - understanding the Process Groups, Knowledge Areas, Processes, Outputs, Inputs, Tools & techniques, associated crosscutting skills, definitions and the meaning of the terminology, along with understanding your roles, tasks and responsibilities as a project manager and some Professional Conduct best practices. You also need to understand what can go wrong in the processes and what process you will do next.

SmartPath LLC will help you fill in your project management experience gaps and / or help you understand the process groups, knowledge areas and processes, etc: Some people have a lot of gaps in their project management, meaning perhaps they have never done earned value management, or a work breakdown structure or critical path and critical chain scheduling is foreign, etc; or the companies they worked for were large and they had a risk department that did most of the risk related project process activities; or an audit company that did a lot of the quality assurance or quality control aspects of project management; or the procurement department did all of the purchasing and had a lot of sole source agreements etc and they just had to check with them for the negotiated prices and provide them with purchase orders. However for the project management exam, you need to understand all aspects of start to finish project management. Understanding the big overview and keywords that help you select the best answer is important. During the PMP Certification Training with Exam Prep, you will receive a lot of project management examples and will be able to visualize how things are done through our workflows and illustrations. Classes are small, so you will have the opportunity to ask lots of questions.

About PMI's Project Management PMP V5.2: In PMI project management there are 5 Process Groups, within are 10 knowledge areas, and 47 processes and 8 role dependent processes. (55 in all.) This is where the understanding needs to take place. You will learn about these, why you need to do the processes, and what tools & techniques are available to you, along with your roles, tasks, conduct, and roles and responsibilities. There are 44 roles including 2 role dependent processes. After doing a process there is/are outputs of the process – the output/s may become an input of another process etc. It is so important to understand the connections between the processes and the way the processes flow. So understanding is key, and with many years of experience you may know most of these already. You may have different names for them, so once you get the new terminology down you will feel at ease. You will also be able to visualize start to finish project management as the knowledge areas are developed throughout the training and you can see how they fit into a start to finish process flow.

How SmartPath LLC Helps You Visualize & Learn: You will receive a Process Groups Chart clearly showing the 5 Process Groups, and where the 47 processes, 8 role dependent process, and 10 knowledge areas fall within the 5 Groups. There are 44 roles in all. There is a workflow that also shows the process sequences. You will receive 10 workflows for each knowledge area that show all of the inputs and outputs as well as the crucial tools and techniques - and the key outputs are in red. The tools & techniques are below the orange process boxes and are often illustrated to help you retain the information. The roles are below the T & Ts on the knowledge area workflow but they also have their own workflow. There are 15 Workflows in all which include an OTTIs Matrix that is color coded. Start to finish project management is shown on the sequence workflow. This workflow will help you answer, "What will you do next?" These workflows are a great summary to your learning and they will help you pass.

These laminated workflows can be written on with dry erase markers and used for day-to-day project management visibility as well as help you pass the PMP exam. Our workflows are in the offices of large organizations all over the US.

See our roadmap for more information. Use this roadmap to create the visual view of what you must to in order to pass.

Practice Exam Questions: SmartPath LLC training comes with lots of PMP Exam Practice Questions. 2205 are in your pmWorkbook and you have up to 30 days practice using SmartPath LLC's PMP Online Quiz Subscription (over 2,100 Questions), where questions can be practiced for speed, understanding and accuracy. The most important aspect of the Exam Practice Questions is to get you used to the types of questions you may have in the Exam, point out how to analyze the correct answers, and help you develop speed answering questions through various means. The questions in pmWorkbook all come with important analytics that clearly explain the critical concepts you need to know and the one Online may give you analytics or refer you to the slide, OTTIs, or Workflow. There are no rote questions that you learn over and over and "then you have it" like the Microsoft Certifications. You need to expect the unexpected. If you learn through cramming you will limit your ability to use your analytical skills. You cannot apply what you cram, only what you understand. We will teach you how to do sharpen your analytical skills. In the Exam you may have verbose questions, some negative, or even some double negative (although these are less likely now), straight up questions, or just plain tricky questions. Perhaps you will have lots of situational questions or sequential questions. Study daily throughout your training to reinforce your learning.

If you become a member first, the Exam is $405.

(3) Submit Your Experience: You do not need membership in order to submit your experience. It costs nothing to get PMP Exam approval or CAPM Exam approval. After you complete the 35 Contact Hours of formal education for the PMP Exam, you may apply on the PMI website to sit for the Exam by submitting your experience and answering the questions about your training at SmartPath LLC. In class, (and/or by request after joining the class,) you will receive a documentation that SmartPath LLC has prepared that will give you guidance to prepare your experience submission. See your pmWorkbook. It will save you a lot of time if you follow the directions. In class, you will learn the correct terminology to use when describing the projects you worked on, and other helpful information. How to submit your experience is a small part of the first day of class. You should use the process descriptions and process group names and knowledge area names that you see on Workflow #12. (Part of SmartPath LLC's Certification Prep materials. Save your PMP application as a PDF and send it to neredahaque@smartpathllc.com for Review. Please have it ready early so you can submit it to the PMI organization before you come to class on the last day. This makes your application one day faster if your last day is a week day.

(4) Study 1-10 Days:

a. How Quickly should you take the Exam if you are already Exam approved: If you are taking the training for Exam Prep only and have already completed a certification training prior, then you may want to schedule your Exam within 1 to 4 days. However, in our experience, the training is quite intensive and if you prefer to take one or 2 days of rest, we recommend it. Taking a week or so to shore up areas you may not be "top notch" on will not hurt you either. In fact, why take the Exam twice. That is totally unnecessary. If you have a lots of gaps, we recommend that you take further time to study and even resit the class. You can do this for up to 6 months from your first day of training.

b. Awaiting PMP Exam Approval & Study Time: How much study time will depend on the individual, usually based on the depth of your experience and current understanding and if you are a faster learner or a slower learner. Very experienced lead project managers, with no prior training, are capable of taking the Exam and passing within 1 to 7 days. Most take a weekend to study. If you have gaps in your experience, or you get busy on a new project you can take the Exam any time up until the next Exam change as the materials will remain relevant. However we recommend you taking the PMP Exam no later than 2 to 4 weeks out so you don't have to ramp yourself up for the Exam again. Use the time to understand the process connections, associate roles and tools and techniques, understand what can go wrong, what is next and general project information. Our materials have been proven that they can help you pass even if you never came to one class. While you are awaiting the PMP Exam approval, study the materials that need memorizing (Workflow # 12 & the Formulas) or those that need understanding such as inputs, outputs, tools and techniques, procurement contract calculations, Roles, Sequences and / or PMI Professional Conduct, Synonyms, recommended exercises, etc. In class you will already have a comfort level with backward and forward passes, risk probability calculations, and EVM along with contract fee calculations. When it comes to the PMP Exam Practice Questions learn them by analyzing them. You are also provided analytics for each practice question that is in your pmWorkbook. Sometimes this is the most important thing you can do the day before the Exam - just analyze the questions. Now you also have up to 30 days free use of SmartPath LLC's PMP Quiz Subscription with another 700+ questions designed to further impact analysis and context. For this questions you are referred to your classed materials.

Use SmartPath LLC Guidelines to prepare for the Exam: These are (a) Checklists of what you must know to pass the PMP Exam & (b) How to Study for the PMP Exam. (c) Know the Roles, Tasks & Responsibilities listed on Workflow 11 and the sequences on Workflow 13. Use your Roadmap to pass the PMP Exam.

(5) Pay the Project Management Institute for the PMP Exam as soon as you are approved to take the Exam.

(6) Schedule the PMP Exam with prometric.com: With approval from the PMI organization, you are instructed to n pay them for the Exam. Once you have paid for the Exam you go to prometric.com and schedule your exam by following the instructions that you are given. Please note that 2% of PMs are audited after they pay for the PMP Exam. Make sure you use colleagues or managers on your application that can be easily found for your project experience references as you cannot change them out after the fact, and if you don't do this you could delay your exam for another year and have to reapply.

(7) Take the PMP Exam – 4 hours – 200 questions – 25 questions are fluff – they don’t count but they don’t tell you which ones are fluff. These 25 questions may be totally foreign to you as they are used for statistical purposes. Your exam success is based on the level of difficulty you are able to achieve.
